"State Farm calls itself a “good neighbor,” but my experience says otherwise. After Winter Storm Fern (Feb 2026), snow buildup damaged my roof. When it melted, water started seeping into my attic and through the ceiling into my garage. This wasn’t a minor issue—it was clear storm-related damage. State Farm approved interior mitigation work and told me they’d cover costs beyond my $6,000 deductible. That work was quoted at $5,500—so effectively nothing meaningful was covered. Still left with a leaking roof. Then their adjuster, Brad Szczerbik, claimed the roof damage was due to “faulty installation” from 13 years ago. Convenient. I had zero leaks before this storm. Not one. End result: * $26,000 out of pocket for a new roof * Additional cost to remove and reinstall solar equipment * Years of loyalty (since 2017) with no prior home or auto claims—apparently irrelevant They’ll gladly take your premiums for years, but when you actually need coverage, they look for ways to deny the real problem. “Like a good neighbor” doesn’t mean much when you’re left holding a $26K bill."
